Think of it this way: you can keep a love letter, but what do you do with a sweet SMS from your significant other? We have minutes of social club meetings from decades ago; but entire communities have been created on the web that just faded away without a trace. Historians can only use the records that survive through time - so if we don't keep all this digital stuff somehow, some of the most influential events and developments of our lives will be lost in the mists of time.
