lies, damn lies and browser statistics
The question is: how much marketshare does IE still have; and how much have Firefox and Opera gained?
- Let's start with a very recent and unscientifically generated random sample: Funny Shit (last 300 pageviews max.) This is 300 hits in the last day, from people who look at pages with titles like Funny Shit. IE6 has 82.7%, Firefox (all versions) 5.7%, Opera 7 1.7%. IE's share is definitely falling.
- Meanwhile w3schools Browser Statistics have IE at just 67% and falling fast; one lumped-in 'Mozilla' category at 21.2% and rising fast; and Opera 7 holding stead at 2.1%.
- TheCounter - global stats for November puts IE at 80%, 'Mozilla' at 3%, Opera at 1%. stats_weenie: Snapshot: TheCounter.com has a crack at identifying trends in TheCounter's stats.
- Statistics for www.boingboing.net. again, probably a skewed sample.
